iFi Zen Stream: Setup, Tips, Tricks...

As mentioned above, version 2.32.9 had dropped from the server, when it was reuploaded it had caused issues.

This version has been out since last year so I am not sure why you would not have already had this version of firmware, however after the issue, it was decided (with the newer version being in beta) that since this newer version will address current issues and contain all of the previous fixes not to reupload it as everyone should already be on this anyway.

The new version should be out shortly, and most should have long been on 2.32.9 anyway, so the only thing (technically) that is missing from 2.31.7 is Airplay 2.

What version are you on right now, and is there some reason you are not on 2.32.9 before this issue? Of Course apologies for any inconvenience.

Cheers!!
My ZenStream, like Lvivske’s, is on 2.32.7 and won’t update any further. I’m fine waiting for the upcoming update but I ran into issues back in May when I checked for an update and got the message *Error: the current system version is larger than remote one. Aborting.*

I rather reluctantly did a system reset, it worked, and 2.3.7 was what was installed. I mostly use my ZenStream via Roon, but hopefully the new firmware might enable some further AirPlay options?

No real issue to report except that when you asked “any reason why you’re not running 2.32.9” that would be my answer.

Funny thing I just noticed. It is mentioned that 2.32.7 or .9 is the current version but I'm on 2.31.7 and when I use the function to check for updates it says I'm on the latest version.
Technically .9 would have been the "current" correct version, but as I said it was taken down from the server.

I don't want to overcomplicate it, but you are on the "current available version" Some folks out there may be on the one that was 2.32.9 and was released last year.

Again the newest version is in Beta at the moment and should correct all this confusion for everyone.

Sorry for all this...

Cheers!!

Hello,
the newest version f/w may be released within this month??
I would guess it would be in the first part of June, nothing concrete but it's on pace for that.

Cheers!!

Thanks..
Does that mean the newest version f/w will be GA(or Public Release), not beta?
Yes once the beta testing is complete, it will be uploaded to the server for General, I am sure if it's not me someone will notice and post an update here.

Cheers!!

Hey guys. Apologies if this has been discussed in the past, I failed to locate the topic... is it possible to connect two different DACs via the two USB ports? And if yes, would they work simultaneously or would it be necessary to switch them somehow? As a use case, I am looking to use Roon to stream into the Zen Stream and hoping I could just switch DACs from the amp inputs. Thanks!

Hello,

No, you cannot do this, you could hook up two DACs using the coaxial and USB, only the lower port on the Zen is for USB DAC use, the top one is for connecting a SSD or thumb drive for direct music playback.

Many thanks for your response. I was a bit confused by the description on the website. Really appreciate the clarification.

This isn’t what you asked, but it’s a good opportunity for me to mention something I recently did that I’m quite pleased with myself about.

My downstairs system uses a ten year old pair of KEF x300a wired, powered speakers which have beautiful imaging and lovely tone but which would be challenged to produce a really room filling sound. I’ve had a pair of 70s vintage OG Advent walnut speakers which I inherited from my parents… couldn’t bring myself to dispose of them but wasn’t sure how I could integrate them into the digital system, since they require amplification.

What I ultimately did was to run RCA cables from my Schiit Valhalla preamp to an old Tisbury mini passive preamp which has two outputs, one of which goes to the KEFs and the other to the CD input of their old (1980s?) Onkyo receiver which, of course, was cabled to the Advents. The Schiit is fed by a Modi multibit DAC (in turn fed by the ZenStream/Roon and a TEAC CD player) and a U-Turn/Ortofon/Pro-Ject PhonoBoxDS vinyl combo.

The results were everything I’d hoped. My wife, who loves music but isn’t any kind of hi-fi aficionado gave it a listen and instead of the “That’s nice, I’m glad it makes you happy” response I was expecting, said “OH! That’s an amazing difference.” Pushing many times more air has that effect!

I think the same thing could be accomplished with RCA splitters, but I had the Tisbury going unused and it turned into a really elegant solution at no additional expense to me!

No worries! I will have them take a look it as to be more clear of an explanation.

Thanks, Cheers!!
